TO ALL WHO HAVE AN INTEREST IN HISTORIC and GENEAOLOGIC CINCINNATI

Help Save the Grandin House. Send an EMail.

The Grandin House on Grandin Road is on the National Register of
Historic Places because of its history. It was built in 1860 for Piatt
Grandin by her husband Phillip Grandin. Mr. Grandin was the son of a
surgeon who was in the Revolutionary War.
Ralph Peters bought the house in 1885 and donated some land for the
Convent of Notre Dame. The Summit Country Day school has the convent's
land now, and bought the Grandin House in 1996. Now the school wants to
return Mr. Peters favor and tear down this famous house with its wrap
around verandah and links to many prominent Cincinatians. In addition,
it has been learned that there may be some of the Grandins and other
families actually buried on the site. Tearing down this house and
building something else there would ruin anyone's chance of ever finding
the graves of ancestors they think might be buried there.(the genealogy
subject of this message)

Mary Ann Wendling is leading the neighborhood fight to preserve the
house, and several preservationist organizations have approached the
school with funding ideas. The school will not accept any of the
neighbors request for meetings to talk about
preserving the house and its historic appearance. Nor will the school
even talk to the neighbors about what they will do with the site or
graves dug up once the house is razed.

Please send an E-mail to the following people and let them know we feel
about the Summit Country Day School's plan of history destruction.
