First, figure out his soundex code. There are places on the web to do this
or someone on this list can do it for you. (I would include it but you
didn't give the name.)
There is a soundex for 1900 for Ohio and guidebooks for its use. For
example, if I am looking for M623, I go to Ohio, look up M623 and see what
index film contains this soundex. Then on the film, I look for all the
M623's. All the names contained in soundex M623 will be together in
alphabetical order by *first* name. When you find the correct soundex card,
it will tell you their place of birth and year, county (note the county),
supervisor number (ignore this), ED number (note), sht (sheet/page - note
this) and line number. By the way, while you have that card in front of you,
write down the family names and any address, since you may get a census page
that is hard to read.
I have not found a map of Wards for Hamilton County that tell where an
address would be, but I hear they exist. This would give you another way of
finding the ED.
Once you have the ED, I think LDS lists this census so you can figure which
film to get. If you are at a location with the film, you go back to the 1900
book and look up Ohio, Cincinnati, and then the ED. This will tell you on
which film that ED is located. ED's are usually in numerical on the film.
(Hamilton County is good for 1900.)
If you were looking in a smaller area, you would probably only have one film
for your county and it would be easier! But Hamilton County probably has at
least 10 films for 1900. I have been searching through all 9 films for 1880
and have one left to go.
