Subject: Re: 1812 Buffs? 1850 / 1855 Congress gave land for service?

Wondering if there are any 1812 buffs on the list?
Here is my question:
My gggggrandfather, Caleb Scofield came about 1820 to Green Twp. he was
married to Margaret Prosser - they were married in 1805 NYC. They raised
their family here in Ohio. Some of the children were born in NY. But
before coming to Ohio he served in the NY Militia in the War of 1812. This
week I received his Land Bounty File and it says that in 1850 Congress passed
some sort of a law that gave Land to soldiers for their service. Caleb in
1851 applied for and received 40 acres - by Land Warrant # 49.390. How can I
find out where this land was? He was already in Ohio by 1820, so it probably
wasn't the land he lived on here.
Then in 1855 Congress passed another law that accorded soldiers of the 1812
War more land ... his widow applied for an additional 120 acres and evidently
got it. But I do not know the land warrant number for this land and again
don't know how to find it.
Is anyone out there familiar with this timeframe and service payment - who
could tell me where the land was in the US that was being given for service
in the War of 1812? Or where I can start looking?
Any guesses greatly appreciated. I suspect some of his children may have
gone to where ever the land was later.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Patti Graman
