Request a SEARCH for the marriage record (try to give a time frame of a few years) I'm usually am looking for a maiden name and write in John Doe and Mary ?

In about 2 weeks, you'll get a letter saying - they didn't find it or they did (no charge so far)

If found, they send you a number, and you send the number, $2.00 and a SASE back. This part is faster - about a week.

On my last request, some nice person sent me copies of 2 pages of " a request to restore a marriage record" - a court document to replace a record destroyed in the court house fire - FREE. It had the maiden name that I was looking for and MUCH More!!!

Actually, this is a great service. Some states' courthouse staff will not do searches.
