ROBERT BOWLES, a successful and enterprising agriculturist of Lauramie
Township, engaged in farming and stock-raising on section 15, was born
in Kent County, England, the date of his birth being October 30, 1818.
His father, ROBERT BOWLES, who was also born in Kent County, England,
immigrated to the United States with his family in 1822, and settled in
Hamilton County, Ohio, where his death occurred in 1864.

ROBERT BOWLES, the subject of this sketch, was reared to the vocation of
a farmer on the home farm, and was educated at home under the
preceptorship of his father. He came to Tippecanoe in 1842, when he
settled on his present farm, and by industry combined with good
management he has accumulated a fine property consisting of 450 acres of
valuable land. MR. BOWLES has been twice married, his first marriage
taking place in January, 1846, with MISS GINEY BUCKLEY, a daughter of
JAMES BUCKLEY, deceased. To this union six children were born, their
names being as follows--ELECTA, DELIA, TIFFANY, RICHARD, JOHN and
EDWIN. MRS. BOWLES died in April, 1865, and in the year 1867 MR. BOWLES
was again united in marriage to MRS. VIRGINIA LOWE, a daughter of GEORGE
HICKS, and to them have been born two children named ISADORA and MARY.
