Hi list,

I am fairly new to this list but enjoy reading the posts. I have a few
questions I hope someone can help with. We are searching for information on
a couple who died in 1850 in Cincinnati. Restored marriage records show the
marriage in 1838 for Heinrich PAPE and Catharine STUEVER, this fits with the
birth of the oldest daughter in 1841 and some church records.

The story came down through the family that Bernard Henry(BH) and Catherine
PAPE were living in Cincinnati when there was a buggy accident from which
Catherine apparently died from, either right away or shortly after. She is
not listed in the 1850 July census with the family. So we presume it
occurred in the spring. We have a reference for the death of Catherine
PAGE?? in Apr. 1850 who had been ill 21 days before her death.

BH is listed with their three daughters, Elizabeth 9, Caroline 5 & Julia 1
with boarders. We have some info that states he ran a bar/boarding house.
In the Oct. census of 1850 Elizabeth & Caroline are listed in Aloysius
Orphanage. Julia was supposedly being taken care of by family. BH &
Catherine were buried in Old St. Joseph's cemetery in 1850 no specific
dates, Caroline died and was buried there in 1887 and Elizabeth in 1926. In
1912 Elizabeth had her parents and sister moved to graves that are closer
together.

Julia next shows up in 1879 when she married Gerhard STALLMAN of Franklin
Co., IN, where they lived and farmed until after 1900 when they moved their
family to MI.

We know the records for this time are scarce but wonder if someone might be
to help us connect where Julia was for nearly 20 years.
And how her parents died.

Questions we have are:
Where would we find newspaper articles about the buggy accident and/or their
deaths?
I have checked for probate but can't seem to find them. In a book by Carol
Willsey Bell titled 'Ohio Wills & Estates to 1850: An Index there is a
reference for an Estate, intestate estate at the Cincinnati Historical
Society, Eden Park. Is anyone familiar with these records? Do they really
exist?

Sorry about the length but am looking for a proverbial needle in a haystack.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for your time,
Peggy :)
