Hi;

I mentioned "schmierkase" earlier and didn't explain better -- although I
thought it had been included in a list of German goodies earlier.

As I recall, "schmierkase" was very close to what we now call cottage cheese
although I think it was somewhat smoother in texture. However, what I
remember was homemade. My older family members, however, also later
referred to store-bought cottage cheese as "schmierkase".

Incidentally, my (Irish/Welsh) Dad never liked either. When he was a POW
during WWII, he wasn't able to eat it, even close to starving!

Talk about a food dislike, now that's really a serious one.
