Now that you mention it, some of us lost very good resources for our German
ancestry research during World War II.

I have been told by at least two different German immigrant family ancestors
that, during that time period, they were contacted by the then-Nazi
government in Germany in an effort to recruit them to return to the
"fatherland". Along with the recruitment propaganda were church and civil
papers showing their ancestry!

My great-grandfather TROENDLE is said to have thrown all that in the furnace!
I wish they had destroyed the propaganda and kept the documentation!!

Some of those papers are in the LDS microfilm files.
