I'm sorry I failed to mention that I know the indexes are available at
libraries, but many of our requesters don't have the time to visit the
library for an index search, they don't live near a library with adequate
resources, or they live in another country.

We've had a number of people from Europe, contact us looking for ancestors
who emigrated to America in the late 1800's and sometimes were never heard
from again.
The CENSUS LOOK-UP mailing lists are a wonderful online resource
for these reasons.

For anyone looking for census information, I hope you all know that there is
a CENSUS LOOK-UP mailing list for all 50 states at rootsweb.com.
