Hello;

I'd like to add something to Carol's good advice about not just taking the
cemetery records as proof.

I had written on several occasions to a cemetery office about an ancestor.
We knew only that he was said to have been born in Germany -- had no clue
where.

After a few years, I wrote again, because all they had told me was "born
Germany". I asked specifically if they had any other information.

I was again told "no", and a copy of the journal entry was sent to me.
That's all it said.

After I had worked on this particular line for about ten years, we were
nearby and visited the cemetery. I first went to the cemetery office (you'd think
I would have gotten a clue by then) and again found the same entry.

So -- we decided to visit the ancestors. There is a fabulous double
monument on that grave for man and wife. It not only specifically states full
names, dates of birth and death -- but also the exact town, province in Germany.

GO LOOK AT THE GRAVESITE -- always!

Best wishes,
Ann
