>From an old booklet I acquired today, with the title "First Annual Report of
the Board of Managers of the Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphans' Homes to
the Governor of the State of Ohio November 15th 1870", published "Columbus:
Nevins & Myers, State Printers. 1871", under the heading of "Names and
Description of Children in the Ohio Soldiers' and Sailors' Orphan Home,
Xenia , Ohio" is the following:
Number: 138, 139 [assume the number given when admitted]; Admitted: Sept.
27, 1870; Name of child [two]: Eva Andrews, age: 11, Girl; Ida Andrews,
age: 9, Girl; Class: 2 [for each and I've found no reference for a class
meaning]; Residence: Cincinnati; Name of father: W.H. Andrews; Regiment:
5th Cav; Company: G; Where father died: Columbus, O; Date of father's
death: July 13, 1867; Mother: Living; Mothers' name: Julia M. Andrews.
The booklet shows a sample of the application (the above is from the actual
children summary list in full, as in the book). It should contain a lot of
other information and possibly statements if it could be found.
(These are the only children listed from Cincinnati.)
..... I hope this helps someone.
