Yes, Valerie, I did notice the same thing. I called Ancestry, as a matter
of fact. They could give no rationale for that decision. I also mentioned
to them that some of the information on their site used to be open to the
public, and some were paid databases. I asked why that had changed. The
rather nebulous answer was that anything they "wanted" to be free had been
"transferred" to Rootsweb.com, which of course, they now own. I looked at
Rootsweb, and I don't see ANY new databases on there lately. I agree that
in some ways we're getting soaked, but we are also a captive audience --- at
least I am, since I do this for a living, and really need access to the
databases. I asked how much it was going to cost THIS time to have access to
everything on the site, and I was told it will be $239.00 this year. I hope
they can avoid making new categories just to get more money. Greed is a not
