I wrote this in response to a post by Ed Long, I think the same would apply
for death records as for birth records:

Hmm...I know that birth records weren't maintained usually until the end of
the 70s, and even then it still wasn't all of them. Many people never
registered their births until the early 1900s. If the person waited until
up to 1911 to register the birth, the information would be at the University
of Cincinnati - Archives and Rare Books Department at the Blegen Library.
The phone number to call them to see their procedure for doing lookups via
mail is 513-556-1955. If they don't have it, and you believe it could've
been registered even later, you would have to go through the Hamilton County
Health Department. You can call them at 513-352-3120.
BUT, at the William Howard Taft Center at 230 E. Ninth Street,
Cincinnati, Ohio 45202 (513-946-3586), according to my new "Guide to
Genealogy Resources in Cincinnati and Hamilton County,Ohio" book it states
they have in book format registered births from 1863 to 1908! I didn't even
know this, I just now saw it. But, it also says these are not complete
records, but it could be a place to look if all others fail. I hope this
helps!

There are three places listed to try above.
