Bob, thank you so much for the information! Very interesting. He
returned home by steamer per his own account. That is all I know. The
family story is that he came back with only enough gold for a wedding
ring for my g grandmother (sounds like one of those romanticized family
stories, but I guess it could be true). We have letters he wrote home
and also a long letter from a friend who stayed on in San Francisco
talking about life in SF during that time. I am so intrigued that I am
going to pursue this. I live in N. CA so may see if there are any gold
rush records there that may shed some light on all of this. If I find
out anything related to Cincinnati, I will share it with the list.
