Linda in CA, I certainly don't have any answer to your question, but this
may or may not help. I have Frances LOMBARD (1855 NY - 1919 Wood CO., OH)
who md John C. WARNER (brother to my ROsa WARNER) in 1873. AFter his death,
she md 2nd Edwin E. GIFFORD in 1881 Wood Co. I assume this was still
Mongomery Twp, near Wayne where she had lived before. Edwin was b. 1826 in
Fairfield Co. to Edwin E. GIFFORD and Margaret TWINING. (Her name hard to
read on Edwin the son's death record.) Son died 1913 Prairie Depot (used to
be present day Wayne).

Graham Cem, Wayne, Wood Co., OH- section 3 row 9 or 10 has John WARNER,
Francis Warner GIFFORD, Edward GIFFORD (1832-1913) and Bert GIFFORD
(1887-1967). Interesting that both Edwin b. 1826 and Edward b. 1832 died in
1913. Edward might be brother to Edwin Jr? Bert a son? The only birth
record I found for Edwin & Frances was Carrie b. 1891 Wood Co. She did
marry Robert GOGLEY who was born in Hancock Co. But remember I wasn't
really looking for all that much on GIFFORD. I was mostly interested in
Frances Lombard Warner Gifford.

I know this doesn't really help much with your GIFFORD problem, but if you
had no idea where to look for the name, you might want to try Fairfield Co.
Henry might be a brother of Edwin Sr.

AS for birth records, you are right - 1867. Marion Township is alive and
well, although being right on the east side of Findlay, it is being
swallowed uup little by little by the city. Ohio has townships which are
the pieces the county is divided up into. I'm not the one to describe
townships to you, but we have quite a number of them - 17 or so?
Unfortunately state maps almost never show the township divisions. Too bad.
When you are in CA, it is difficult, then, to know where the boundries are,
and that can be very helpful.

Sorry I didn't help you more, but maybe this helped a little. The census
sounds like a good bet to me if the age is right. Did you find her in 1860
with Henry & Maria? Or do you need a lookup? If those match, and she
married here in 1866, that seems pretty safe to me. Perhaps there would be
a newspaper article, but I really doubt it. That's pretty early for that.
Still, it's perhaps worth a try. Good luck. Ann Brickner
