This might just muddy up the waters a bit, but in my research of the Ream family of Ada, Oh., I have come across the Gilbert family four times. Three of the Gilbert women who married into the Ream family are known descendants of Hoarce Gilbert. The fourth woman probably was also of the Horace Gilbert lineage.
You might be interested in the following that comes from the 1883 HISTORY OF HARDIN CO., OH., Chicago: Warner, Beers & Co., pg. 1002:
"HORACE GILBERT, farmer, P.O. Ada, was born in Canada, April 10, 1805. He was a son of Josiah and Cloe (Barnard) Gilbert, both of English descent and both natives of Vermont. His father was a carpenter and joiner. Our subject was educated at the common schools in Canada and Vermont. In 1840, he emigrated to the United States, and settled in Ohio, Liberty Township. He was married in 1833, February 27, to Sarah Wood, a daughter of Hezekiah and Elizabeth (Savage) Wood. Ten children have resulted from this union, five of whom are living--Berthina wife of John Shuster, a wealthy farmer and one of the early settlers of this township; Hoarace, deceased; Mary A., deceased, wife of Dr. Walters, a prominent physician, a sketch of whom may be found elswhere in this volume; Alvin, deceased; Melissa, deceased, wife of William Kidd; Orinda A., deceased; Laura, wife of Frank Ream, deceased; eighth, --------------*, the ninth and tenth, twins, Marantha and Miranda, the former, wife of !
William Cross, of Ada, and the latter, wife of Henry Ream, of Ottawa, who was formerly a citizen of Ada. Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert are members of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Gilbert is the owner of the first store that was opened in Ada. He bought it of the railroad company. He also owns a valuable farm of 160 acres and considerable other property. In politics, he is a Republican."
*The eighth child was not named; the dashes merely apperared in place of his (or her) name. Have you noticed that this article said that five of the ten children of Horace & Sarah Wood Gilbert were deceased and, even though six were said to be deceased, it named all of them? Therefore, the eighth, if everything is correct, would have been alive at the writing of the article; his (or her) name was merely forgotten. Could this possibly be your tie in to this branch of the Gilbert family?
The Frank Ream and Henry Ream who married into the Gilbert family were first cousins. Henry Ream's brother, Anderson (Major) Ream married Sarah Ella Kidd, a daughter of the William & Melissa Gilbert Kidd mentioned in the article.
The fourth tie in of the Gilbert & Ream families is rather distant, but did occur in (or around) Hardin Co. A Darlene Gilbert (parents unknown to me) married Timothy Kenneth Bassler-a descendant of John A. Ream. John A. Ream was an uncle to Frank Ream, Henry Ream, and Anderson Ream.
I hope this might help you in your search.
