Of course there is an Oreville. I remember staying there as a child during
the war. Darned if I can rememeber exactly whose house but I suspect my
cousin Marie's mother-in-law's house. My cousin's husband was off in the
war somewhere. This was summer vacation and I wasn't exactly happy to be
out here in the middle of nowhere. Had I but known that my Hocking roots
were around there it probably still wouldn't made any difference. The post
office was over in New Straitsville in Perry Co. Also the movie theater.
Stores. Etc. I was then living in the metropolis of Zanesville, Muskingum
(40,000). The house was right on the road and no traffic-of course this
was during the war and no gas I guess. Now the cars whiz along this
narrow, curvey road and it is hard to look for a house vaguely remembered.
James Lanning is my third great grandfather. I descend from his first wife
Mary Phillippi. But I am also related to his second wife. She is the
sister of my gr gr grandmother.
