Subject: [OHHURON-L] Marriages of Bethune and Rachel COLE

Hi Patricia (Patricia ),
I'm Ken Shute, Bev's husband, and am responding to your query instead
of Bev since I did a look up on the COLE family previously. (I
usually do look ups at home to queries posted on the OHHURON Mail
List.)
I found Rachel's marriage, but not Bethune's. However I did find a
few references to a Bethuel COLE, who I assume might be the same as
your Bethune COLE. Details:
1. Huron County, Ohio Marriages, published by Scheuer Publications,
1992.
Rachael COLE m. Volney SANFORD 30 Dec 1856.
Adaline COLE m. Thomas J. MCCAGUE 1 Jan 1851.
2. Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions, published by HCC/)GS,
1997.
Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk Township.
Page 686. Woodlawn Cemetery Burial Cards.
Thomas Jefferson MCCAGE bur. 12 May 1904.
3. History of the Fire Lands, Comprising Huron and Erie Counties,
Ohio, by W. W. Williams, 1879.
Page 231. Section on Bronson Township.
"The next settler to (Bronson) was Bethuel COLE, brother of David
COLE..........He came with his family from Ontario County, NY in Oct.
1823.......He built a......log house where the dwelling of his son-in-
law, T. J. MCCAGUE, now stands......Mr. COLE died on his original
location in 1873, in his seventy-eighth year of his age. Mrs. COLE,
now an octagenerian (in 1879) still occupies the old homestead,
making her home with her son-in-law, T. J. MCCAGUE."
(Sad to say, the above article doesn't identify Bethuel's wife by
name, other than "Mrs. COLE.")
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Ken Shute, Silver Spring, MD ().
P. S. I'm also posting this to the OHHURON Mail List in the hope that
someone might have more information on the marriage of your Bethune
COLE.
