For Errol and Valerie Cross.
Hi,
Back again on HOWE.
I checked our Huron County, Ohio publications for any references to the
HOWEs you named, but could find none that really fit the circumstances
that you described for each.
However, I did find a possible reference to your Joel HOWE in the Common
Pleas Court Records, 1830-1835, of Lawrence County, Ohio. Rebecca
WAKEFIELD was named as the "wife of Joel HOWE of Vermont." Lawrence
County, the southernmost county of Ohio, is about as far away from Huron
County as you can get, but not all that far from Washington County, Ohio
which you named.
Source is Gateway to the West, by Bowers & Short, 1989, Vol. 1, Page 713
..
Lawrence County, Ohio-- Common Pleas Court Records-- Journal 1830-1835.
Page 713. "3-12-1834-- Asa KIMNSLL (sic) vs. Thomas W. Wakefield, et. al
. Bill in Chancery, Timothy Wakefield, dec'd. Widow Marinda, now the
wife of George W. Beams, she had an infant son after Wakefield's death,
which died but was his child. Children: Thomas L. Wakefield of Granville
, New York; Harriet Wakefield of Vermont; Rebecca wife of Joel HOWE of
Vermont; Sarah wife of Rufus Ewens of New Jersey; Auratha wife of Michel
Johnston of New York."

Ken,
Thanks for responding. Our problem is we don't know much. We are looking
for sons of Joel Howe b. 1765. Joel was in Poultney, VT in the late
1700's and real early 1800's. By 1810 or so he had moved to Washington
Co., OH.
According to The Howe Genealogies (the Howe family "Bible"). Joel had 9
children. It lists the name for only 1 - Ransom.
A copy of a page from The Howe Genealogies that Washington Co., OH sent
lists another son in handprinted form as Nehemiah.
Joel had a brother Jacob. Our family oral tradition says that we are
descendant from a Jacob Howe, but many people have spent years trying to
find the right Jacob. We found a Jacob Howe died about 1854 in Huron Co.
But our family history says our Jacob (or maybe James or may be you name
it) was alive in 1864.
Most of our tradition was transcribed from memories of older family
members who remembered only parts of the history and that history
changed from day to day.
The last Howe we know for sure is an Albert Cyrus Howe b. 8/21/1821 in
either Poultney, VT or Clinton Co., NY d, 1906 in Big Horn Co., WY.
We see Albert Howes in Huron Co. Cemetery lists, but the best they could
be is cousins.
I guess the best description that we could give is a Howe b. 1790 to
1805 in VT or NY, died sometime after 1850, that had a son Albert, who's
wife maiden name might have started with a W (Albert's 1st son had a W
for an initial).
The best we can ask of you is that you stick our problem in the back of
your mind and if you see anything that could fit the above paragraph,
you drop us a line.
Thanks for your time,
Errol and Valerie Cross

For Errol and Valerie Cross.
Hello Errol and Valerie,
If you could furnish me some specific information on some of your HOWEs
who you think may have wound up in Huron County, such as full names,
preferably with middle initials, time periods, etc., I would be happy to
check them out in our Huron County, Ohio publications.
Sorry, but I don't normally do look-ups on a surname alone. The time it
would take to do this could be considerable, with no particular
likelihood of success in finding the requestor's forebears. For example,
in the case of the surname HOWE, I quickly counted over 100 references
to this surname in the indexes of just four of our main publications.
Regards,
Ken Shute ().

Ken,
We are searching for lost Howe Families. We believe that they may have
ended up in Huron Co.
Can you provide any information on Howe's living in Huron Co.
Thanks in Advance,
Errol and Valerie Cross
