Marc,

While your ggrandfather, Joseph Schlachter, appears to have had a death
certificate issued in Erie County, he is listed as being buried in Huron
County.

I live in Maryland, which is a tad fur to run a personal check in Ohio for
the death certificate, but here's what you can do:

1. Go to the web site for the Ohio Death Certificate Index, 1912-1937
(www.ohiohistory.org/dindex). In the search engine provided, enter the name
of Joseph Schlachter. Then enter the Index years of (19)33-(19)37. Click
search. This will bring up death certificate information for Joseph
Schlachter as follows:

County: Erie.
Volume Number: 233.
Date of Death: "11" (?).
Certificate Number: 33442.

To find out how to obtain a copy of this death certificate, click on the
link"Obtain Death Certificate" to the left.

2. You can also contact the Erie County, Ohio Health Department which holds
birth and death certificates after 1909. Their address is: 420 Superior St.,
Sandusky, OH 44870. Phone: 419-626-5623. This information can be found in the
Erie County home page www.rootsweb.com/~oherie.

3. If, for some reason, a death certificate might be held by the Huron
County, Ohio Health Department (considering Joseph's place of burial), you
could contact this Health Department at the following address: 180 Milan
Ave., Norwalk, OH 44857. Phone: 419-668-1652. They hold birth and death
records from 1908 to the present. These details can be found in the Huron
County home page www.rootsweb.com/~ohhuron.

In our 1896 Atlas of Erie County, Ohio I find:

J. Schlachter, Oxford Township, page 15, Section 1. (The number giving the
amount of acreage held by this person is obscured on the map found on page 15.

In our Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions book I find Joseph Schlachter
and apparent relatives:

St. Joseph Cemetery, Ridgefield Township.
