Forn Raymond Tompkins.

Hello Raymond,

I found some references to what you reported on the McKelveys, but I'm afraid
I couldn't specifically pin down the parents of Eliza McKelvey who married
Cyrenius Starr 29 Sep 1822. I also found an index to the will of Cyrenius
Starr which might be helpful.

>From the references, it appears there was a family consisting of William
McKelvey, Sr., and at least two sons: William, Jr. and Matthew, who
eventually settled in Greenfield Township, Huron County, Ohio. Matthew
McKelvey married Nancy Adams 28 Mar 1819. William McKelvey, Jr. married
Saloma Ashley 3 Dec 1817.

1. History of the Fire Lands, by W.W. Williams, 1879.

Page 214. Greenfield Township.

Mentions that William McKelvey, Jr. arrived from Trumbull County, in 1810. He
married Saloma Ashley in December, 1817. She was the daughter of James Ashley
of Peru Township, Huron County. They moved to Hardin County in 1835, then
returned to Greenfield Township after six years. Saloma died in 1853. In the
fall of 1854, William McKelvey, Jr. married Mrs. Electa Grant. William, Jr.
was born 21 July 1790 in Westmoreland County, PA. In 1804, William, Jr. came
with his father, William McKelvey, Sr. to Ohio, settling in Pamyra Township,
Portage County Ohio. In 1806 or 1807 the family moved to Trumbull County,
Ohio. William, Sr. came to Greenfield Township in 1815 and settled on section
2, lot 26. In 1819 he moved to Plymouth Township, Richland County, Ohio where
he later died.

Matthew was born in Westmoreland County, PA 30 Jan 1794. His father was
William McKelvey who served in the Revolutionary War. The family moved from
PA to Portage County, OH in 1804, then to Trumbull County, OH in 1806,
finally to Greenfield Township, Huron County in 1815. Matthew married Nancy
Adams 7 Mar 1818 in Greenfield Township. Soon after, they moved to the town
of Portland, now the city of Sandusky.

3. History of Huron County, Ohio, by A.J. Baughman, 1909

Vol. 1, Page 223. The first person to come to Greenfield Township to settle
was William McKelvey, Jr. who arrived from Trumbull County, Ohio in 1810.
After news of Hull's surrender, he returned to Trumbull County, where his
father and the rest of his family were staying, and joined the army as a
volunteer for six months. In 1814 he returned to Greenfield Township, Huron
County. He was elected constable at the first township election in 1816.

Biograpical Sketch on Martha M. Lovell.

Describes Martha M. Lovell as the daughter of Matthew and Nancy (Adams)

The spelling of the surname references I found was almost always as McKelvey.
I found no spellings as McKelvy or McKevly in our Cemetery Inscriptions book,
