The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa
Thursday, February 20, 1908
EDWARD ESSEX was born in the State of Ohio, Nov. 6, 1824. At an early age
with his parents, he moved to Indiana. Later, in 1857 with his wife and
small family, he moved to Iowa, where he remained until 1883, when he moved
to southwestern Missouri, where he has since resided. He enlisted in the
13th Iowa Infantry in 1861 and served until honorably discharged on account
of disability.
He was a consistent member of the Christian Church, having confessed Christ
about 50 years ago. To the best of his ability he exemplified his faith in
God and the Future Life. He passed from this life Feb. 15, 1908, leaving
two daughters and one son to mourn a loss that can never be replaced. The
funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.E. Wells, of the Christian Church,
assisted by Rev. H.F. Moore, of the Baptist Church, at the residence of Park
Williams in Chariton, on Monday, Feb. 17th, and the body was interred in the
Freedom Cemetery. The Odd Fellows also held a short ritualistic service at
the grave.
