Surnames: DEAKINS, BLAIR, SIMPSON,MELTON
My Great-grandfather was Calvin Simpson BLAIR, born 18 Mar 1858 in Knox
County. His parents were William H. and Olive MELTON SIMPSON BLAIR. William
was born in Allegheny Cy, MD, in 1808. Olive was the widow of Samuel SIMPSON.
They were married on 5 Nov 1850. Calvin was their fourth child.
Calvin married Sevina DEAKINS around 1882. Sevina was the seventh child which
is
why she is so named. There is little information about Sevina. She had six
children,
5 girls and 1 boy -- her daughter Ruth Mae was my maternal grandmother.
Sevina
died in Cleveland about 1902. Calvin later returned to Knox County and
married Sevina's sister Mary. Calvin died in 1939 and Mary died in 1946; they
are buried in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Knox County -- I
believe it is in Jefferson.
My information comes from family oral history and the US Census, but
information on the DEAKINS line is slim. Birth and death certificates cannot
be sought until
some basic information is furnished. I am having trouble getting my
grandmother's
birth certificate from Mt Vernon; she was born 19 May 1892.
Seeking information on the DEAKINS. Also, the spelling of the name has not
been proved yet.
