Hi Sandy:
I wish it were true that we have ancestors in common on the Smith side.
My John Smith and family, I believe, came out of Madison Co., VA probably after the Rev. War. They moved north
and were "near Pittsburgh, PA in 1802, then were in Muskingam Co., OH no later than 1832. By 1835, or 36 John
Smith, Jr. was in Knox Co., OH. John Smith, Jr. married Rebecca Ellen Coram in Knox Co., OH in 1837. Rebecca
Ellen Coram was from Fauquier Co., VA and was the dau. of Lydia Lee Huffman Coram and Elias Coram.
My Ragssdale lineage is documented back to Godfrey (1) Ragsdale and over to England. It is as follows Godfrey
(1), Godfrey (2), Benjamin (3) Daniel (4), Obediah (5), Berryman (6), Martin S. (7), George (8), Floyd C (9) and
myself Floyd D. Jr. (10).
Obediah settled in Mason Co., KY in 1793. A son of his, Berryman Ragsdale, raised a family of 15 kids in Boone
Co., KY. Berryman was deceased no later than 1841. A son of Berryman, Martin S. Ragsdale, was in Johnson Co., IN
by 1855. His son, George was born and raised in IN. He married in Sullivan Co., IN in 1885. He had a son, Floyd
C (my father) who was also born in Indiana in 1886. No need to carry it any farther.
Anyway, by hook or crook, it appears we're related on the Ragsdale side if not on the Smith side.
Floyd,
Galesburg, IL
