I haven't tried the Farm Directory database. However, back in Dec. just
before Christmas when all of Ancestry was free for a while, I kept having
the same problem with all the databases I tried at Ancestry. Sometimes
I could see search results and sometimes I couldn't. It would even
happen that I couldn't see page 1 of results, but I could see page 2, and
then when I went back to page 1, I could see it, etc. This was a real
hassle because for some of their large databases, such as PERSI, I was
getting a couple of hundred pages of search results to look at. I had
already experienced this problem with free databases at Ancestry last
fall. Finally, I wrote to Ancestry.

Altho' I can't vouch for its accuracy, this is the explanation they gave
me. When you can't see the search results, it means you have connected
to a server that isn't working properly. They told me to disconnect and
then immediately try again. Hopefully, the next time, I'd get lucky and
be connected to server that didn't have any problems. (What a way to run
a business, eh? And they actually want us to send them money.) I don't
know enough about computers to know whether or not Ancestry's explanation
makes sense. I assume they are talking about servers at Ancestry - and
that when they say to "disconnect" they are only talking about leaving
the Ancestry site, not "disconnect" from my internet service, which is
what I think of as "disconnect."

I didn't try what Ancestry recommended because by the time they answered
my email, the free period had expired. I don't know if it works or not.
People on this list seem to be pretty frustrated about this, so I thought
I'd repeat what Ancestry said in case someone wants to try it.

P.S. Denny, maybe the "grunt work" they did at midnight last night was
replace the sick server/s. Let's hope.
