I don't know whether this will help or not, but it might. There is a Brown family that moved from Licking County, Ohio to Fulton County, Illinois in the 1830's - they are associated with two of my ancestral family names, Morgan and Devon (or Devaughn). The Brown I know of is Emmanuel Brown, a cooper.
As far as I can tell, Emmanuel married a Devon. (I know of this connection because of a court case involving my ancestor. Unfortunately, my ancestor was a the guilty party - but maybe it will help you.)
