Hi all, Just wanted to share my wonderful find with all of you.
Last week the Lorain County Researcher arrived and I sat right down to read it. Came to page 25 and there is the article, "The RAWSON Family of Pittsfield Twp. and Elyria, Lorain County." It had been submitted by Nick Melhinch. I knew I had come across that name RAWSON in my family travels but could not immediately pinpoint just where. I began browsing through my husband's folders as I was pretty sure it had to be his side of the family (since I was just beginning my research there). There I found a 30 year old piece of paper that I had scribbled on when one of my kids had to do their family tree for a school project.. There was the name of Lucille Elizabeth RAWSON (English), her birthdate, and the name of her husband Harry VAN KEUREN (Dutch), and his birthdate. Lucille was my husband's maternal grandmother. Now to find out if my husband's RAWSONs connected with these RAWSONs.
I made a couple of phone calls and in a matter of minutes had Nick Melhinch on the line. When I gave him the name of Lucille Elizabeth RAWSON he almost immediately said, "Yes, she married Harry VAN KEUREN." It was a connection!! Nick then gave me his website address and I was able to view my husband's family way back to Nicholas de Grandale who was born in 1480. Nicholas's grandson was Edmund Grindall, the Archbishop of Canterbury. I immediately called my husband's family in Elyria and they are ecstatic. They plan to surprise his aunt with it at her big 80th birthday celebration that is coming up.
Another plus---I got to meet "Cousin" Nick at the Genealogy Seminar at LCCC on Saturday. We are in the process of exchanging information....he will give me 14 generations of several lines and I will give him five generations of one line.
Talk about the easy way to do it.....
