I have four carte de visite (CdV, 2.25 x 4 inches) photographs (circa
1875-1885) that need homes. I will send them at no charge to descendants
or persons researching the families of:
1. "J. R Wetmore, 1877 Toledo, O." written on the back, a CdV that has
no other backmark information.
2. "Fred Buckherist" written on the back of a B. H. Salls "Art Studio,
near cor, Adams & Summit Sts." CdV.
3."W. H. Howard, Toledo, O." written on the back of a Dan W. Smith "Art
Parlor, 113 Main Street, Elkhart, Indiana" CdV.
4. "Wm. Woodruff, Brocklyn [or Brookyn?], O." written on the back of a
W. A. Robinson "183 Summit Street" CdV. Roninson was in Toledo at this
address from 1870-78. [Gagel]
I also have some Perrysburg CdVs of the same vintage with the following
names:
Mrs. Frank Ryder, Lime City, O.
J. H. Thornston [?]
T. B. Ablinger [Oblinger?]
Leroy Oblinger
Mrs. E. E. Oblinger
E. D. Locke
Henry Root
Mrs. F. B. Ablinger [Oblinger?]
Mrs. Fred Yeager
All except Ryder were from Perrysburg, and most CdVs were taken by B. H
Salls of Perrysburg. The writing on many of the CdVs is in the same hand.
Benjamin Salls was a photographer in Toledo from 1868 to at least 1886
[Gagel].
