Julie in Columbus,
Yes, Shehy Street is named for the Sheehy Family. Daniel Sheehy (4gG) as
first settler in 1797 owned a relative large portion of downtown Youngstown
for some years. Shehy Street was at one time the location of many prominent
families and a number of the homestead for Daniel's descendant and relatives
were located on the street. The last time I was there about a year ago it
had become a very different section of town, but sadly that is true of many
sections of Youngstown. There is a very nice monument erected downtown near
the Mahoning River to commemorate John Young (city namesake), Daniel Shehy
and Powers.
