Hi All,

I have a marriage of Jacob BACKEL, and Catherine MOYER - m. 4/22/1860, Marion
Co., OH. It is possible that the real spelling of the name was Beckel, as there
were Beckel families in the area, (Richland Twp.) and I see no Backels. Does
anyone know anything about these surnames? On Al's web site- in the
Naturalization Index, it lists a Henry, Michael, and Philip Beckel that came
from Rhine/Byron, who were naturalized in 1846, and 1851. This is
Rhein/Bavaria. It is generally the same area that our Moyer's were from. I
believe the spelling in Germany was an umlauted e- or translated spelling
Boeckel. I am trying to find where this family migrated to, and connecting
families.
