Jane,
Don't know about the Morrow list but most of RootsWeb lists are closed
lists and you need to be a subscriber to post. Am forwarding this on to
the Marion list.

Subject: {not a subscriber} BURT BROWN and LEONARD of Denmark/Canaan
Township/1800s
Hello,
I have not posted my research interests in a couple years. I am
following the family of Ebenezer Burt b. 1783 in Washington County PA
and his wife Sarah Leonard Burt b. 1790 in Greene County PA. They came
to Denmark in Canaan Township (then Marion, now Morrow county) around
1825 and are found in the tax lists there by 1827. Around 1832 he became
Justice of the Peace (his name found on marriages and deeds of the area)
and in 1833 he was one of the Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church
as they purchased a small lot from John S. Garoutte to erect a church.
He died suddenly in January of 1836 leaving widow and 7 (or 8) children.
I believe him to be the son of Joseph Burt and Jemima Leonard of
Washington County PA. I believe his wife Sarah to be the youngest
daughter of Lot Leonard and Elizabeth Hoge. Sarah and Ebenezer, whose
first children were born in PA, moved to Morrow with various Leonards I
believe to be her siblings (one of whom, Nancy Leonard, had married her
own cousin Zenas Leonard).
Their children:
Leah Burt b. 1813 m. Thomas Callihan and later Nathan Fitz Randolph
Lot Burt b. 1814 m. Abigail Ellin Brown (which of the many neighboring
Browns was her father??)
Joseph Burt, my ancestor, b. 1818, married Emily Tucker and later Dency
Scofield
Mark M. Burt b. 1822 m. Elizabeth Emig/Emmick
Isaac N. Burt (who may or may not have been a sibling) b. 1827 married
Sarah Harris
Merritt Burt b. 1828 m. Cynthia Grandy
Ebenezer Burt the silversmith b. 1830 m. Sarah Harrod
George W. Burt b. 1832 m. Sarah A. [surname unknown]
I have done a lot of research on this family and hope to find others
interested in, or having information on, the same family.
[This is NOT the Ebenezer Burt of Iberia, Morrow County, b. 1811,
married to Isabella Rankin and Mary Ann Guthrie. Cousins but not close
ones.]
Thanks,
Jane Peppler
