I came across a Lee family in Wirt County, WV where it was the custom to
name a nephew for an uncle. This was somewhat confusing to me when I first
came across it. One of my Monroe cousins married a Robert E. Lee, Jr. My
first thought was that his father would be Robert E. Lee, Sr. but was
surprised to find his father's name was not Robert when I obtained the
marriage record. Later I found a Lee descendant who claimed this was a
naming pattern used in this family.
