Terry,

I seem to keep skirting on the fringes of being able to help you, but I was
in the Mercer County
court house last month and while noting the first land deeds in Mercer
County I did see a William
Bodkin. One never knows when a tiny clue will turn the trick. Here is a
small piece from some of my
notes:

Among the list of first-time owners of land in Mercer County in the years of
1821 to 1839, were the
names Jacob Whallon, Thomas Lacy, George Long, John Coil, Peter Coil,
William Beauchamp, William
Bodkin, Simon Whalon, Manuel Circle, William Ballinger, Sam V. Roll,
Charles Bodkin, James Circle,
John Vorhees, Robert Burdge, Willis Beauchamp, Asa Beauchamp, Robert S.
Preston, David J. Rude,
Joseph H. Hickman, Joseph Lacy, Thomas Kearnes, William P. Long and Susan
Long. William Preston and
Robert S. Preston were involved in many early land transactions during
succeeding years including
selling land back and forth to each other. Some other names involved in
early land transactions were
Rachel Preston, J.S. Mc Gilliard, Isaac Preston, Benjamin W. Preston,
William Preston, Jr., Samuel
Anderson, Margaret Preston, James Vorhees, as well as other related family
members.
