Subject: [MERCER] COLLINS - CLARK-CUMMINS ; Will of Solomon COLLINS d. 1849
Date: Mon, 18 Jun 2001 19:32:34 EDT
For anyone else interested in 'Subject', there follow some items I've just
posted to
Re 'Betsy' - Funny you should say her middle initial was "H". (I read it
"E.N." or "E.R." You read it as "E.W.") It is "H". on tombstone in
Greenlawn, Ft. Recovery, OH, as "Elizabeth H. CUMMINS - formerly wife of
William H. CLARK". Do you have other family records with Eliz. "H"?
My Dad's family (and I as a kid 1933-37 when we moved to eastern OH) were in
the same church in Ft. Recovery with Wiley CLARK's dau Lelia Clark and husb.
Bill KOLP. Their son Clark is about a year older than I am (78). Our folks
knew how they were related, but we in the next generation didn't hear how. I
called Clark KOLP in Van Wert, OH, a few years ago, and he gave me his Clark
ancestors - Lelia>Wiley>William H.>Benjamin - but didn't know of 'Betsy'.
Another cousin, Jeanne Betzel Schwab, (my age) who lived north of Celina
before marriage, and visited her grandmother, my great-aunt Ella Hastings
RALPH, just so. of Ft. Recovery - nr. Pisgah Cem. - filled me in on bits &
pieces. Her mother Ruth Ralph Betzel talked abt the Clarks as related to the
Collinses. And Ruth knew of the CUMMINS connection, but again, us kids never
got the lowdown.
Also , it was difficult to decide which Elizabeth was which. Wiley Clark's
anc. Benjamin's wf was also Elizabeth who turns out to be DENNEY per LDS
Anc. File. (and Anc. File is where I found 'Betsy'.
Jeanne Betzel Schwab and her daughter Peggy Dawson found info on tombstone in
Greenlawn Cem. Fort Recovery that Elizabeth CUMMINS was "formerly wife of
William H. CLARK". Further research finds that Wm. H. Clark died age 28, and
Betsy remarried evidently.
I don't have anything on her family. Certainly always curious to find out.
Hope this helps.
YOUR CONNECTION ? ? ? ?
==========================================================
Your mention of 'Jane' (Phelise Jane in will). That is the only time I'd
known there was such a person and thought perhaps she'd died. (I hadn't
pursued census after knowing Solomon died before 1850.) Do you have data on
her?
======================================================
See subject - First-named son "Major". Any mention of him anywhere else? (I
have recently the name "Magor", but not in this connection). What ever
happened to him?
Fanny married Thomas McDANIEL
Sarah Ann m. Thomas JENKINS
Younger son - John Fremont COLLINS
Family information?
Youngest son died unm. Civil War.
