Hi Nancy thank you for the note, I guess we have two different George
Shaffers. George b. Bavaria ?m. Margaret Snyder who he apparently met on the
ship to America,unknown to me at this time, they settled in Van Wert County
in 1838 on 60 acre of timberland. His oldest son was also george b. 1834, m.
Elizabeth Flager and lived in Mercer County.hey have many children.There is a
moderate anount of information available in the Celina Library on this
family. My wife family is related to John also a son of the original
immigrant George, Her father was Chester L( CL) Shaffer who for many years
was the Van Wert County School Superintendant. I have not been able to verify
that this family did come from Bavaria. Apparently there were 3 or 4 brothers
that came at the same time from germany and the others stayed in PA.Thank
you for you offer of look ups I used the Brumback Library in Van Wert for
most of my information that I have except for family knowlege about their
