Shari,
My mother, Mary Miller Sadler, was born in Mercer County. I remember her talking about "Aunt Mel Frysinger"--wish I knew the family connection! I don't know the ethnic background of the name, but I visited Mercer County this summer and have some info. I have the book "The Mercer CO OH Cemetery Inscriptions, V5 Dublin Township." (where many of my ancestors are buried).
There are 2 Frysinger Cemeteries in Dublin Township, Mercer County. Also, there were many Fri(y)singers buried in Dublin's Mt. Olive Cemetery which is a stone's throw from Frysinger Road. Of interest to you are the following (buried on the North Side of the cemetery).
At the end of Row 13-
Frysinger: Alfred 1833 - 1841
Catharine 1836 - 1907
At the end of Row 12-
Frisinger: Elizabeth, w/o Rev John 1805 - 1888
Rev. John 1807 - 1886
At the end of Row 11-
Frysinger: Ella 1851 - 1892
Augustus 1852 - 1889
Frysinger: Maria 1826 - 1904
Jacob 1826 - 1899
I'd hazard a tentative guess: Augustus may be the son of Jacob (by ages and adjacent plots), who, along with Alfred, may be sons of Rev John and Elizabeth (again by ages and parallel plots). At least this is a good place to start.
I have bits & pieces of census records - for Dublin in 1860 and 1870, for western Ohio in 1910 (all of the above are dead by then), and the 1880 US census, which is now online at familysearch.org. In 1860 I find in Dublin an Augustus, aged 19, son of Peter Frisinger, so kill part 1 of the above guess. In 1880, I find the potential parents of Alfred in Van Wert County (adjacent to Dublin). I don't find them in the 1860 or 1870 Dublin Census records. Here they are:

Keep in mind where John and Elizabeth say they were born.
Again from the 1880 census:

Jacob says his father was born in VA (a match for John M) and his mother in PA (not MD, but close. I find children are often wrong about the exact states of their parent's birth places...especially after they've migrated). Note the 2 Shing(d)ledeckers living with them. That is another prominent name in Dublin.
Now for Alfred in 1880:

Not nice of him to have left off his parent's birthplaces!
And WOW. Is he prolific?! I think William is the oldest child, since he was in the 1870 census. But there could have been more children after Sherman. Which child are you descended from?
I'm also descended from Peter and Catharine Dull as follows:
Walter Sadler (me), Mary Miller, Menomie Hays, Savanah Dull, John Dull, Peter Dull.
I'll keep my eyes open for more info.

wrote:My GGGrandfather was Alfred Frysinger b.1833 in Mercer Co., married to
Catharine Dull b. 1836. I can find little information on him, but my main
question is this: What nationality is Frysinger? Is it Dutch or German?
Some members of the family later changed the name to Frisinger. Does anyone
know of this family, or be able to do a look-up so I could find out the names
of Alfred's parents?
Thanks to everyone,
