Missing church records?

It seems that certain years of church records are missing.

St. Sebastian, I am told had a fire about 1907 which destroyed all of their
records before that period of time.

St. Johns in Maria Stein seems to be missing the records from 1850 to
1860. The Archdiocese of Cincinnati doesn’t have a microfiche copy of
that period for St. John’s either. Rumor has it that the records were
distributed to parish members during one of the world wars so that if we
were invaded the germans couldn’t get the records from the church. Maybe
those records are in somebody’s attic. Would be a nice genealogy find
for those of us searching for information from that period.

Anybody know of any newspaper articles concerning those records or any
others that seem to be missing?

Can anybody confirm or deny the rumors about them being missing?

Jim
