Re: Troy housing.? Perhaps you are refering to what was called "Victory Housing".? I know there were Victory Housing developments in Troy and Piqua (not sure about other areas).? The development in Piqua (now part of Pitsenbarger Park behind the B&K rootbeer stand) was called Victory Heights and was built at the end of WWII to house returning servicemen and their new families.? These "men" left home as 17 -20 year old boys and returned as men wanting to start their own families, but the existing housing market couldn't support the large numbers of returnees, hence Victory housing came into being.??Truth is that they were more of an instant slum.? I was born in '46 and my family?lived in Victory Heights for a couple of years and it was no picnic.? The buildings were one story, yellow glazed block and very austere.? All of the streets were named after Generals and Admirals.? I lived at 113 Wainwright Court near the intersection with Eisenhower Court.? There was a lot of crime !
(thefts from yards and cars, etc) and I had to literally fight my way to and from school on a regular basis.? Perhaps that was good training for my eventual 30+ year career with the Naval Special Forces (mostly in the Reserves).

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for information on Highland Park in Troy, It was built during WW II
and was only for families of the military. It is now called Terrace Ridge
Apartments, not sure if it was called Highland Park when it housed families of
the military or acquired that name after the War.

It is off of McKaig Avenue and close to what was Stouder Memorial Hospital. I
would love to hear from anyone that has any information or pictures. I would
hate to lose that part of the history of Troy.

Thank you.

Louise

Tim ,

It was for the families of the service men in WW II, from my understanding it
was just for the families of the service person in WWII or you could not live
there. My sister remembers we lived there, my father was drafted, sent to Cinn,
did not pass the physical, came back to Troy, we had to move out.

I also know a gentleman in WW II said his family lived there but it was just
housing for the military families.
I have contacted WSU and they are looking for information also.

If you are familiar with Troy, the buildings that have been razed on Old 25 A S
going out of Troy and before you get to Waco, the tavern and some of the earlier
buildings were ammunition storage buildings that were moved to Troy from
Wright Patterson and remodeled for the tavern and housing. The little white
houses behind the tavern were built in the 50s by my father.

Thanks Louise

Dear List,
My cousin's wife, Gloria Curtis Clutter, died on May 18, 2007 at the
University Hospital in Columbus. She was suppose to have contacted e coli and
died as the result of it. There may be some articles in Troy paper about it.
The family used a funeral home in Tipp City and I am not sure where she is
buried--possibly in Piqua. I was unable to attend the funeral and would like to
have her obituary. I tried to find in on line but could not. Thank you.
Barbara Becker McIntosh
