Subject: [OHMONROE-L] Census Index 1870?
Date: Wed, 9 Jun 1999 14:52:14 EDT

Hi!

I have copies of the Civil War pension file for the brother of my
g-g-grandmother. In one paper, he lists that he was a resident of Monroe
County from approximately 1867 until 1877. I would like to locate him in the
census during this time, but I understand that there is no census index for
the whole state of Ohio for 1870, although some counties were indexed
separately, not all of them were. I wondered if Monroe might be one of those
counties? I have no idea of what town or township he might have lived in and
I hate the thought that I may have to go page by page thru the whole
microfilm.

Does anyone know if this index is available? I plan to be in Ohio soon, for
business and to visit relatives, so if I find there is an index, I may be
able to look it up myself. I would just like to know whether what I need
even exists. Thank you!
