A number of person have contacted me regarding my posting about
the court records at the Morgan County Court House,
McConnelsville, OH
My work in 1959, with the Cott Index Company (Out of Columbus,
OH), was a lowly job, to help index all the old record, books that
were falling apart, so that they could be micro-filmed for, I
believe, the Ohio Historical Society. I did, in addition to
tagging the books, for those doing the real work, at every chance,
read what I could and searched for connections to my line, the
Pickenpaugh's. Much of it stuck with me, so that, 40 years later,
I could locate the filing of my ggg-grandfather, Jacob
Pickinpaugh's, administrator of the his will, in 1832.
I found many of the old books and records on the 2nd floor and
believe they still have many on the top floor, the employees at
the court house were nice enough to make copies but I encountered
no one to look up records for me. I found more help at the
Kate-Love-Simpson Library in their genealogy room, and leads there
to find additional records. There were people in that room that
assisted me, if they were part of a genealogy society, I do not
know. One person, who was a teacher when I went to the old M&M
High School 45 years before, a Ms. Ruth Hart, was very much
involved in either a genealogy or historical society and I met her
at the library. That is the person I would try to contact to find
some one to look up records there.
Beyond this I can offer no additional help, I wish everyone luck
in their search and I would hope that they share whatever they
find, on this page for the rest of us.
