Joseph J. Holtom, son of James and Susan Lash Holtom, was born in Mt. Gilead, Morrow County, Ohio, Aug. 16th., 1843, where he lived part of the time until 1859, when he went to Lagrange Co., Indiana. There he lived until his death which occurred Saturday, Nov. 17th., 1894. He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Deal, March 4th., 1864. He leaves surviving him a wife, one son, Frank Verne, three sisters, Mrs. Spaulding, widow of the late Dr. A.M. Spaulding, Mrs. John Seaburn and Mary Holtom and one brother, Wm. Holton, the last two of Bellville, Ohio. Wm. accompanied his sister, Mrs. Spaulding, home to the funeral. The funeral services were held at the East Springfield M.E. church last Monday conducted by Elder J.P. Jones of Lagrange. The funeral was largely attended. The deceased was a man very highly esteemed and loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by us all.
