Message Board Post:

I am researching the Gattshall (Gattschall)(Gottshall) family. I have some information from family reunions. My branch of the family is:

1. Daniel Gottshall and Hannah Dunkelberger
2. John Gattschall and Louisa Thomas
3. William Gattshall and Sarah Shaw
4. James Garfield Gattshall and Cora Garrison
5. Cecil Gattshall and Stella Frizzell
6. Harold Gattshall and Fraces Jackson
7. Claudia Gattshall
8. Tyler Gattshall

Daniel and Hannah were from Pennsylvania and probably moved to Ohio between 1820 and 1824 to Delaware County (now Morrow) Westfield Township.

Their eldest son John was born there 09/18/1824, his son William may have been born in Franklin county as our family history says he spent 15 years away from Morrow County in Columbus. I know he was back in Morrow County by 1860 as I have found him on the Census from that time and was unable to find him on the 1850 Census along with his mother and father.

William lived in Morrow County first with his parents and then his wife Sarah until at least 1880. I found them in Cardington in the 1880 Census.

The family moved along with some of the Shaws who were related to Williams wife to Paulding County Ohio after that time. I am trying to locate any one researching who might know of additonal family history.

I think that Daniel's father may have been Ludwig Gottshall and mother Barbara Hahn in Lancaster, Pennsylvania because the dates of birth & so forth are very close. Also it appears that the Lancaster Gottshalls knew the Dunkelbergers because they seem to be intermixed in some of the PA church records. I have been unable to positively substantiate that theory yet.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you Claudia
