Subject: D.M. Mosher quarry in Morrow County abt 1880
Date: Sat, 18 Mar 2006 22:28:29 -0500
I am researching David W. Mosher who lived died and is buried in Morrow
County. He died Jan. 23, 1880.
In the "History of Morrow County",* (0. L. BASKIN & CO., HISTORICAL
PUBLISHERS, 186 DEARBORN STREET. 1880), *I find the following:
"About three and a half miles southeast from Cardington, in Lincoln
Township, occur several quarries on the horizon of the Berea grit, the
exposures being, caused by the upper forks of Alum Creek. They all lie
within the area of a square mile, and are owned by D. M. Mosher, Daniel
Steiner, Morgan B. Brooks and T. C. Cunnard. "
I am trying to determine if this D. M. Mosher could be David W. Mosher.
I know that three of David W. Mosher's sons were stone masons.
He also had a brother Daniel Mosher, perhaps he is the D.M. Mosher
(although I know he did not live in Lincoln Twp, but rather Bennington Twp.)
I also know that David W. Mosher is buried just north of Fulton, Oh, and
there is an old quarry just about 1/4 mile from the cemetery where he is
buried. The quarry is on the banks of Alum Creek, so it would seem to
be the one described in the book referenced above.
David W. Mosher is listed in the 1850 census in Lincoln Twp. as a farmer.
Daniel Mosher is listed in the 1850 census in Bennington Twp. as a farmer.
There is also a David Mosher in the 1850 census in Bennington Twp. who
is a shoe maker.
Does anyone have any additional information that would help me determine
if David W. Mosher was in fact the owner of this quarry?
Thank you.
