I went to High School with Chita Hawking. He father was a son to Hermann.
Chita must have had an Aunt that married and lived in town also. They ran
the local shoe store on Madison Street for many years. He died suddenly of a
heart attack. By then a lot of the family started migrating to California,
and I think the grandmother either had already died or died shortly. She is
listed as Philippine in the census data. As I remember, her husband got out of
the service from Erie Army Depot and stayed there.
Spooky or Carmen's mother married another dancer, and opened a dance study
in San Diego. Spooky spent summers out there, and went there permanently when
she graduated from high school. She married there also. I have a copy of
her marriage photo and story from the Port Clinton newspaper. My sister went
to high school with Spooky.
Chita is in California also, I think near Los Angeles. I think Chita's
sister still lives in Ohio near Port Clinton.
