I found your man! Mathias Ridenour, b. 16 Jan 1824 Perry County OH, d. 27 May 1908, Blue Creek, Paulding OH. Son of John Ridenour, b. 18 May 1783, Hagerstown, Washington MD, d. 7 Oct 1874, Lima, Allen OH; and Hannah Amelia Spohn, b. Jan 1786, Hagerstown, Washington MD, d. 27 Jul 1879 Allen County OH.

Mathias' grandfather, Lt. Adam Phillip Spohn, was a Revolutionary War patriot, whose service has been proven with the DAR.

There is an extensive bio on Mathias at http://www.findagrave.com. A partial quote is as follows:
"- 1853 - Matthias was a Democrat and held the offices of Town Clerk,Assessor, Trustee, Coroner (One Term) and Sheriff (1854-1856) in AllenCounty.
- 1861 Enlisted in Co. H, 32d regt. O.V.I and wastransferred to Harper's Ferry, VA where he was taken prisoner. He wasexchanged and transferred to the Western Division of the Army ofTennessee. He participated in the siege of Vicksburg and was withGeneral Sherman.
- 1864. Because of a wound received in the Battleof Clinton, Miss., he was given a furlough. While at home, he assistedin the recruiting of a company of men. He was promoted to FirstLieutenant of Company A, 180 Reg. Subsequently, he was given acaptaincy of the same company.
- 1865. Mustered out with his company. Service for 3 years, 10 months and 23 days was honorable."

Paul and Richard, this is interesting as to it being Mathias Ridenour of
the Jefferson Co. OH Ridenours. The John Ridenour family of early Fairfield
Co. OH moved to Putnam Co. @1827, and some of the Perry Co Ridenours to
Allen Co. These 3 counties, Putnam, Allen & Paulding are all together in
northwest Ohio. It would be nice know which Mathias this is, all info helps
in figuring out these North west Ohio Ridenours.
