Subject: [OHPICKAW] Oak Grove School and Warren School
Date: Thu, 14 Aug 2003 08:54:20 EDT
Hi,
I'm planning a trip to Pickaway on August 19 and would like to know where the
above mentioned schools are/were located as I would like to drive by the
properties.
The Oak Grove School is mentioned in an article from "Pickaway Places" on
Tilghman WARREN. There is a photo in the article of Tilghman Warren's homestead
and it states the school house in the background is the Oak Grove School.
Tilghman Warren died 1853 and his wife, Rhoda, died 1863. This article says
the cabin was passed on down through their son, Thomas, to Thomas' daughter,
Melissie Ellen (Warren) ROSSITER - w/o Isaac M. Rossiter who was a Justice of
the Peace. After their deaths, the house was sold and razed by the purchaser in
1953.
Also, I have a copy of a 1915 Warranty Deed between the Board of Education,
Rural School District, Pickaway Township and Mr. John WARREN in which is
mentioned property known as the "WARREN SCHOOL."
I don't know if these 'schools' were the same and perhaps Grove School's name
was changed to Warren School or they were two separate schools.
Thank you for any assistance.....
