Hi Penn,
I see you are still researching the Martin family. Have you found anything
on how Ann Wallen was involved with the Martin family and how Elias and Ann
were included in his money distribution? In his will Elias stated the names
of his children and also said , "these are my children and only children."
I wonder if this has something to do with the Martin family.
I read that a George Martin was the first person to hire a surveyor for
Putnam Co., Is this person attached to our Martin family. When I get a
chance, I want to go to Ohio and read the surveyors report for Putnam Co..
It might hold something interesting. Imogene, wrote that Ann Wallen was
related somehow to the Martin family, in an article for the newspaper
regarding genealogy of Putnam Co. She was also related to the Martin
family. Imogene was very knowledgeable about Putnam Co..
Is there anything special that you are seeking to find regarding Obed.
Martin? Did you know that on April 30, 1835, the court met and Obed Martin
was on the Grand Jury. In 1828, Robert and A.E. Martin were reported as
living in Putnam Co. and in 1832, Obed Martin came to Putnam to live. On
July 29, 1834, James Martin was elected to be a Justice of the Peace. The
first settlement in Sugar Creek Twp. was made at Hog Creel , near Gomer,
by Robert Martin and Soloman Sprague, in 1828. In 1832, the family of Obed
Martin came. The first justice of the Peace was Obed Martin. And in
1828, James Martin attended the auction sale of the estate of Elias Wallen.
This is all I can think of at this time.
Do you know who Margaret M. Martin married? Good luck. My new e-mail is
and Good luck. Beverly Wallen Williams
