Subject: [OHWASH] PROBATE and "Duh"
Date: Wed, 5 Jul 2000 09:54:41 EDT
Would a kind fellow Washington County reasearcher please help me
understand where post-death information can be had? This is basic and rather
dumb, but I admit it.
Person A (an Washington County Ohio native) dies in St. Louis December
12 1910. Her daughter puts an obituary in the St. Louis paper that says "Mom
died, burial in Montgomery, Alabama: (where I have absolutely no other
connection genealogically that I know of."
Typically what documents must be filed and where? Questions:
1) St. Louis must have a death certificate on file, right?
2) Since the remains were moved, there must be some sort of permit, right?
3) Her property must be distributed; there must be a probate somewhere,
right?
4) To bury someone in Montgomery- there must be a permit, right?
5) Am I looking for all the right stuff?
6) Where should I look?
What basically is Probate and are the laws in most states and counties the
same on this?
Thanks for your indulgence
Peter
