I am thrilled that you are thinking of walking and transcribing the Texola
cemetery. My great-great-great grandmother, Polly (Mary) Ann (Durham)
Graves, died in 1907 and is buried next to her son, James Carroll Graves,
my great-great grandfather, who died in 1932. The wife of James, Rebecca
Travelstead, died in 1929. I have lots of Graves and Travelstead
relatives buried there.

in Sayre, Oklahoma, in 1946. I am decended from Robert Crossman who was
a U.S. Marshall in Ok. Territory, ran in the Ok. land run, owned one of
the first motels on Route 66 at Texola, and raised bloodhounds for the
state pen. He was my great-grandfather. One of his daughters, Bessie
Wilmeth Crossman Darnell, my grandmother, went to college and received
her teaching certificate in July, 1912, which I have framed and hanging
on my wall. Bessie married William Jabe Darnell who was a sheriff for a
time, then a farmer and ginner in Texola for the rest of his his life.
His mother was Martha Penelope Brown Darnell. We do not know her
husband's first name. She was widowed while still having three small
boys. She cooked on some large ranches in the area of Texola and the
Panhandle of Texas. Her sons were William Jabe, my grandfather, Gus-who
was a captain on two different merchant marines and lost at sea during
WWII, and Tom- who was an accountant for Fred Jones Ford in Oklahoma
City. Bessie and Jabe Darnell had four children. Zelpha Mae (Snookie)
who married Rodney Ivan Jaggers, Billy J Darnell, who married Ester Marie
Garner, Martha Nell who married James Ernest Payne, and Robert L Darnell,
who never married.

Carter, Texola, and Roosevelt, before moving to Texas in 1951.

Pigg and others have listed all those burried in the other Beckham
Cemetaries, but we cannot find a list for Texola's cemetary. If there is
already a list, I would like to know what site has it posted.
