WESLEY EUGENE MITCHELL

Little Wesley Eugene MITCHELL, 18-month-old Negro son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl
G.(Grant) MITCHELL of Tyler, Tex., was burned to death shortly after 2
p.m. today in a blaze that completely demolished a frame house in the Lincoln
addition.

The child's grandmother who was caring for him in the house, belonging
to her daughter, Mr. Mary HOWELL, and had left the baby asleep to run down
to the store when the fire broke out.

By the time the blaze was discovered it was too late to rescue the youngster.
Cause of the blaze had not been determined, but it was believed that a
kerosene stove might have been overheated.

The building was completely demolished before the Elk City fire department
could bring the fire under control. County Attorney Jim Ted ROBINSON and
Fire Chief charges STICE wee(were) investigating the fire to determine
its origin.

The child's parents were working in the cotton field, and had left him
in his grandmother's care.
